Logging, Audit and Control

One of Merce's design goals is to make the usage of IS infrastructure auditable. A second goal is to allow for policy controls on each service offered to users. Few email or Web proxy servers allow the degree of auditability and control that Merce does.

Infrastructure level security

Merce aims to be paranoid about security, and secures your information against intrusion, theft, and accidental data loss. Merce's own inter-server synchronisation uses public key cryptography. The Merce installer hardens the OS during installation. Virus and spam filters are integrated into Merce. Various control features are designed to prevent information theft and leakage. Automatic data protection mechanisms protect information against accidental data loss.

Controlled email and Web access

Merce provides email and Web access services for all users in a secure and controlled manner. Traffic is logged and reports are generated for system managers to track system usage. Merce lets you control which users can access which sites at which times of the day, and which users can send email to which recipients.

Integrated management

This is at the heart of Merce's design philosophy. Merce provides a single browser interface to manage an enterprise network of hundreds of servers. What's even more powerful is that the Merce system manager does not need to think in terms of individual servers but in terms of locations and users. Merce maintains an enterprise-wide user directory and each user gets one ID to access all services across the enterprise.

New network insights

Merce's unique network and server monitoring system called Merce Insight provides you quantitative data of network and server health parameters from across the enterprise in real time. Merce Insight generates alerts when exceptions are noted. And the historical data it collects allows you to take capacity planning and resource allocation decisions on time, in an informed manner.

Proven industrial-strength solution

Merce scales up to 10,000+ users and hundreds of servers. It has been proven in data-centre environments where it has been integrated with external RAID arrays, FC HBA, storage networks, VPN concentrators, firewalls and IDS systems. It is often deployed on HA clusters. Its database has been integrated with business applications. Merce's robustness and scalability takes the stress out of IS infrastructure.
